Forty-nine Hudson High School Students Earn 200 Scholastic Art, Photography and Writing Awards!

Forty-nine Hudson High School Art, Photography, Graphics, and English students have collectively earned 200 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, including two prestigious Portfolio Awards in Photography earned by seniors Jamie Hoy and Alex Vuksta.

 

Senior Kay Bodrock earned the program’s ‘American Vision’ Award, one of only five awarded in the region. Bodrock also garnered ‘Best in Show’ for her LOL Egg painting. The painting was featured on the cover of the 2017 Scholastic Arts Awards program. Seniors Sydney Miller and Taylor Hoppes each received a one-year free membership to local art museums.

 

The Hudson High School art, photo, video and graphics teachers are Timothy Naujoks, Photography; Carolyn Huber, Art; and Michael Ondash, Video and Graphics.

 

Four students earned six awards in the Flash Fiction, Short Story and Humor writing categories of the competition. Allison Hess and Caroline Funk garnered Silver Medals in the Flash Fiction Category, in the Short Story category, Yuhan Kim earned a Silver and Honorable Mention award, and Nina Venkatesh earned a Silver Medal. Yuhan Kim also earned Gold in the Humor category for “Ode to a Friend.” Honors English 10 teachers are Jacqueline Hannan and Christie Annichine.

 

Many students earned Gold, Silver and Honorable mention awards on multiple entries. The awards are listed by the highest award a student earned in the competition.

 

Sixteen students earned one or more Gold Medals in art, photography or graphics. They are as follows: Ashley Affeldt, Kay Bodrock, Angie Cuiffo, Thuressa Cullen, Istabrag Dalieh, Drew Fitch, Hunter Gawne, Madeline Goodyear, Jamie Hoy, Shelby Johnson, Adam Martin, James Mau, Alex Romanic, Jacob Russo, Alex Vuksta, and Rebecca Witt.

 

Garnering Silver Medals were students, Celine Agnor, Madison Brown, Kyle Gluntz, Allison Hess, Taylor Hoppes, Dillon IaI, Sydney Miller, Jennifer Morris, Feyza Matlu, Harrold Pok, Ines Roessler, Benjamin Stevenot and Grace Stiles.

 

Earning Honorable Mention were students, Anna Berger, Tracy Chen, Ashley DiPenti, George Griffiths, Evan Hamm, Robby Kaiser, Diana Lee, Jenna Lund, Lucy Marshall, Amanda Meder, Kara Schurman, Lexi Stahl, Julie Stiles, Danielle Turner, Mackenzie Wakeling, and Emily Warfield.

 

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards recognize and identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent. The competition also gives students the opportunity for recognition and scholarship.

 

“This is an incredible showing of the artistic and writing abilities of our students, and demonstrates the strength of our fine arts and English programs,” says Sheryl Sheatzley, Communications and Alumni Outreach Manager. “We are very proud of our students, and staff, and we invite the community to view a large gallery of student art to be displayed at the Hudson PTO Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 4, 2017.”
